Every year, we welcome many guests that want to take a day off skiing to enjoy other mountain pursuits, or have had an injury, or are simply just not that into skiing or boarding in the first place! Luckily, our La Plagne resort of Montchavin Les Coches has a vast range of activities geared to non-skiers, most of which we can organise. Here’s just a few of them!
Fat Bikes, where you take up the last ‘Lac Noir’ bubble and then hurtle down the closed pistes on a Fatbike, a mountain bike with oversized tyres. If it’s dark, you’ll need a headtorch to see where you are going! Organised by Evolution2, it’s fast, exhilarating and a lot of fun!
Husky rides – it’s so magical to sit in a sledge and be pulled through the snowy slopes and woodlands of Montchavin Les Coches by a pack of lovely huskies. The professional ‘musher’ will introduce you to his dogs, explain how it works and there’s plenty of photo opportunities. Kids can do it too, so it’s a great experience for the whole family.
Snowshoe walking – strap on a pair of raquettes, hike off into the mountains directly from our chalets and you might be lucky enough to spot a chamois or an ermine. There are short 1/2 hours strolls up to all-day long hikes and you can also hire a guide (we have plenty of maps in the chalet and tourist office).
There is a free shuttle bus between our two resorts of Les Coches and Montchavin so you can easily have a wander around both villages. See if you can spot all our chalets in both places! Montchavin is a delightful farming village, where you will still see chickens roaming around the cobbled streets.
There’s the Espace Paradisio, a spa & swimming pool complex in Montchavin. For any infants coming to our chalets, they have a Parent & Baby session on Weds mornings in the heated pool.
In-Chalet Massages – for a touch of luxury and indulgence, you can book yourself a massage via our partner Massage Me any time between 8am and 8pm.
Pedestrian lifts – it’s possible to take some of the local lifts as a pedestrian (Les Coches bubble, Montchavin chairlift, Lac Noir bubble, Pierre Blanche chairlift) and then meet the rest of your party for lunch in a mountain restaurant and watch the skiers whizz past.
Every Tuesday evening from January 2020, there are yoga lessons in English & French in the Montchavin town hall.
Water colour painting – if you’re a budding artist and can speak French, you can get water colour painting lessons during the week from a local artist
And of course, we have the Olympic Bobsleigh in La Plagne. You can try the bob raft, which holds 4 people and is ideal for first timers (you still experience speeds of up to 80km/hour!), or go it alone in the speed luge with an incredible 19 bends or be driven by a professional in a bobsleigh, reaching 120km/hour! You’d need to get a taxi there and back (we can organise this), it opens at 4pm so best to arrange on the chalet staff day off – it’s very popular so gets booked up very quickly.
In addition to this long list, you could of course just sit in the chalet hot tub with a glass of bubbly, read your book, enjoy the lovely food that your chefs create for you and RELAX!
