Great news for cycling fans – after a 23 year absence, the Tour de France is making a comeback to La Plagne on 25th July. This stage will be the last major battle in the mountains before it finishes two days later on the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Stretched over a demanding 130km of riding, the stage starts in Albertville with 4,500m of ascent, crossing 4 gruelling mountain passes before tackling the final 19km with 24 hairpin turns all the way to La Plagne (it’s making us tired just thinking about it!)
For our summer self-catering guests who want to watch it, make sure you arrive in good time as the roads will be closed and of course, you don’t want to miss the ‘Publicity Caravane’ which is when the sponsors throw goodies to the crowds from their colourful floats an hour or so before the riders come through.
Fancy a go yourself? Amateurs can take part in the L’Etape du Tour, which takes place the week before the race. To help you get race ready, Bruno from Evolution2 in Montchavin is offering a bike training camp with guided rides, mental preparation sessions and advice on nutrition and health.
