The summer season opens on 12 June 2021, and the La Plagne tourist office has worked really hard to develop scores of new and exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy!
From 4th July 2021, the lifts will be open, which you can use as a pedestrian (up and down) or you can also take up your mountain bikes if you want to ride back down.
You can rent Chalet Chocolat or Chalet Grizzli (sleeps 12) in Montchavin from between 1000€ for a 3-night stay up to 1,750€ for a week in July or August. Take a look at our Summer page for more information and prices.
What’s new this summer?
NEW – Up and Go Family ‘Accrobranche’ Canopy trail
We’re super excited about this new canopy trail in Les Coches, which we’ve watched being built over the last few months. Set in the trees just behind the ice rink in Les Coches, there are 3 family-friendly courses of varying degrees of difficulty, including zip lines and walkways. There’s even a special course for the really tiny ones, just one metre above the ground and with no need for a harness.
NEW – Chez Laurette – Lunch on the go!
What could be more romantic than a bracing walk and relaxing picnic in the mountains? And now, even better, the traditional Chez Laurette restaurant (at the top of the Lac Noir bubble, walk right) will pack you a wonderful, gourmet picnic spread so you don’t have to make it yourself! A freshly prepared salad plus quiche or platter of cold meats and an easy-to-transport dessert – delicious! You can also add on a bottle of wine (they’ll even supply you a corkscrew, which we always seem to forget!)
NEW – E-scooters
New to Montchavin Les Coches, mountain sports provider ‘Up&GoMontchavin’ has taken the urban electric scooter and pimped it with heavy duty suspension, disc brakes and deep-tread tyres! For riders aged over 14, they are offering tours of up to 2 hours.
NEW – Archery and shoot the zombies!
Kids and adults – why not try your hand at archery in Les Coches? You can have lessons from a pro from Robin Des Bois, plus all around the forest, there are special zombie targets for the archers to find and shoot.
NEW – E-mountainboards
Mountainboarding is essentially a cross between a skateboarding and snowboarding – but now for a blast of power, you can try out electric mountain boards around Les Coches!
NEW – Photography Course
Want to take better photos of the mountains? This summer, photographer Maxime Leclerc is running a mini course, covering macro photography, portrait and landscape.
NEW – Ice Rink with a view of Mont Blanc!
We were so pleased that the ice rink re-opened this winter in Les Coches – it proved to be one of most popular activities whilst the ski lifts were closed. It will be open once again this summer, and the views are amazing!
NEW – Which lifts are open?
In Montchavin, the ‘Coches Télécabine’ lift next to our chalets will be free of charge this summer! Or it’s just a 5 minute stroll to the Montchavin chairlift, plus the Navette will run between Montchavin and Les Coches, so it’s now even easier than ever to get up and down the mountain.
AND DON’T FORGET – there are loads of other activities to try out
- Evolution2 rents out mountain bikes and e-bikes, plus head VTT instructor Bruno does amazing guided tours
- Climbing, via Ferrata, glacier hiking
- Rafting, hydrospeed, canyoning, paragliding
- Swimming at Montchavin’s swimming pool and spa complex
- Tennis, yoga, circus and magic school
AND FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT…

For the more cerebral of you (and those that loved The Queen’s Gambit), La Plagne is hosting a chess festival with the opportunity to discover this beautiful game. There’ll be free chess lessons, giant chess games (aka Harry Potter) and chess tournaments for all levels.
