Montchavin-La Plagne

Montchavin-La Plagne, one of the 10 separate ‘stations’ of the immense La Plagne ski resort, is made up of Les Coches and its sister resort, Montchavin.

Chalet Pisteside and Chalet Chamois are our ski-in/ski-out chalets in Les Coches, situated right on the piste. Chalet Chocolat and Chalet Grizzli, our brand new chalets for ski season 2017/18, are in Montchavin and located right by the cable car, and in good snow conditions, you can ski back to the chalets.

Unlike much of La Plagne, which is made up of 1960s apartment blocks, Montchavin La Plagne has a much more traditional feel, and being situated amongst the trees, it really does have that quintessential skiing charm.

Montchavin is a picturesque, old farming village with pretty cobbled streets and traditional wooden chalets built with Savoyard stone and slate roofs. Les Coches has been built in keeping with its heritage and together, they make a perfect base for a skiing holiday.

Undoubtedly the best thing about choosing Montchavin La Plagne as your Paradiski base is that it is home to the La Plagne end of the Vanoise Express. This is the impressive cable car that links La Plagne to Les Arcs, and as such, Les Coches and Montchavin are perfectly situated to explore the massive ski area of the Paradiski, offering over 425kms of marked pistes. Plus, the resort is north-facing and tends to hold its snow much better and for longer.

But it's easy for us to say we're perfectly located. I mean, we would say that, wouldn't we? After all, everyone else does! So why not see for yourself. Look at a
piste map of the Paradiski ski area, and you'll see that Montchavin La Plagne is as close to being slap bang in the middle as you can be, without actually living on the cable car!

Les Coches has all the amenities you would expect of a mountain village. Bars, restaurants, a crèche for the kids, plentiful ski shops, local gift shops, two ski schools, a well-stocked local supermarket.

Montchavin has a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops, and also has a cinema and the Espace Paradisio, a spa & pool complex, with a jacuzzi, Turkish bath and treatment centre.

Access to skiing from the chalets
Getting to and from the chalets couldn't be easier.

Chalet Pisteside, as the name suggests, is right by the piste, so truly is ski-in, ski-out. Chalet Chamois is just metres away from Chalet Pisteside, and is also ski-in/ski-out. You can put on your ski boots and ski down to the Plan Bois chairlift in Les Coches in a matter of minutes.

For beginners who can't yet ski out from the chalet, we offer a courtesy lift in our minibus to ski school. Coming back is very easy though - you just take a flat path all the way from the beginner slopes to the chalet - so easy, in fact, that all beginners can manage it.

Chalet Chocolat and Chalet Grizzli are right by the ‘Les Coches’ cable car from Montchavin which takes you to Les Coches, where all the ski schools meet.

And once you’re on the slopes, you’re well placed to head off to either Les Arcs or La Plagne – take either the Lac Noir bubble or the modern Plan Bois 6-man chairlift in Les Coches, and you can then ski straight to the Vanoise Express and into Les Arcs, or choose to hook up with Bijolin chair if you want to head up and explore La Plagne. Simple!
